February 5th – February 7th – TDHH Mentorship Semi-annual District Meeting – Topic: Assessments and Transitions. Stay tuned for launch of 2020-2022 cohort.February 26th – 27th – Mt. Washington Regional Event – Some of the Vancouver Island school districts are having their annual event for DHH students, sponsored by POPDHH. Several BCSD students will have an opportunity to join this year. We look forward to photos and stories after the event.

December 13th, 2019 – POPDHH ASL Activities in Duncan – Contribution by guest editors from the SD 79 – Cowichan Valley:

On Friday (Dec 13th), a group of our learners who are deaf or hard of hearing came together at the board office to meet with Terry Maloney. Terry is an expert educator, gifted presenter, strong advocate for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community and the administrator for the Provincial Outreach Program: Deaf and Hard of Hearing. Terry came to the district to chat with our learners about his past and some of the challenges he was faced with as he grew up, as well as teaching them some American Sign Language. Our learners were particularly captured by the descriptions of Terry’s early hearing aids and how big, bulky, and fragile they were.

2020 Winter & Spring Family Storytime in Sign Language and English at Burnaby Public Library
Join a Deaf storyteller and a children’s librarian for stories, rhymes and crafts presented in both American Sign Language and English. This is a free drop-in for children of all ages and abilities, together with a parent or caregiver. All families are welcome! Interpreters will be present.
Five Saturdays from 2:00 to 3:00 PM: January 11, February 8, March 14, April 18, and May 9

High Water Live Performance – The Vancouver International Children’s Festival is partnering with the PuSh Festival to present the live performance of High Water to school groups February 3rd and 4th on Granville Island. This show has a curriculum connection to Environmental and Social Studies as well as Science and Drama. It is appropriate for G2 to G6 (age 7+) students and has no word spoken making it a good choice for deaf and hard of hearing youth.Visit childrensfestival.ca or call 604.708.5655 for details
