Registration package and deadlines:Registration for DHHproud Showcase – due March 6th, 2023. The registration is now closed. We will be in touch with the participants about the next steps shortly.
- Parental consent form – due March 10th, 2023 *Please forward the link to parents for completion. Once the parents complete the form, POPDHH and the TDHH/Main contact will be automatically notified*
- Funding request for out of town districts – due March 10th, 2023
- Entry video of ASL poetry (K-3 and 4-7) – due March 10th, 2023
- Digital entry of DHH Art – A high resolution scan in JPG or PNG format – March 10th, 2023
- Transcript of the Spotlight presentation – April 11th, 2023
Funding Requests Rules and Regulations
Registration, consent and funding request are all google forms. The districts may request funding for air travel and accommodations for:
1. Students competing in the Spotlight (Grades 6-12) and ASL Poetry Grades 8 -12 categories (i.e. students competing live).
2. Main contact – TDHH
3. Additional adult (for students needing one on one chaperone/support).
- Due to accommodations shortages, we may not be able to accommodate out-of-town students who wish to observe the competition this year.
- All funding requests are subject to POPDHH approval.
- POPDHH reserves the right to book less costly air fares if appropriate.
- Participants are expected to share accommodations per educational rooming guidelines. (4 students or 2 adults per room).
- Costs for non-air travel and local transportation (airport – hotel and vice versa) will be reimbursed upon request. An expense form and original receipts must be submitted within the same school year. Other costs (i.e. meals, local transit not related to the DHHproud events) are not eligible for funding or reimbursement.
- Please note that all airfares are non refundable. Districts may be held responsible to reimburse the POPDHH for the full amount in case of student/adult cancellations after the airfares have been purchased. For more details about funding, please email us at office@popdhh.ca

Spotlight - Communication Contest for DHH Students (Oral or Signing) in Grades 6 - 12
THEME: “This is my Deaf or Hard of Hearing World”
- Open to all DHH students in either spoken English or ASL. Audiogram not required.
- First place winners of Optimist or Spotlight from prior years are not eligible to compete.
- Presentation (spoken or signed) must be based on the theme
- Minimum 4 participants, maximum of 14 competitors
- Presentation must relate to the theme
- No props can be used
- All students (oral and ASL) will be judged as one combined group for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place
- The presentation cannot be shorter than 3 minutes or longer than 4 minutes
- Transcripts of all presentations must be submitted to POPDHH by April 11th, 2023
- Prizes: 1st place – iPad; 2nd place – Smart Watch; 3rd place – $100 Chapters gift card

DHH Art Criteria – 2023 Theme: This is my Deaf/Hard of Hearing World

- Open to all DHH students in the province. Audiogram not required.
- First place winners of DHH Art from prior years are not eligible to compete.
- No maximum number of contestants, minimum of 4 contestants required for each age group
- Artwork must be 2-dimensional (e.g. no pictures of nature or sculptures)
- Artwork must be original, drawn or painted on 8.5”x11” paper, canvas or aquarelle paper
- No clipart, photocopies, magazine cutouts, computer graphics, tracings, computer software, newspaper cuttings, etc. i.e. all artwork must be created independently by the student
- Medium: pencil drawing, watercolour, acrylic/oil, ink, pastels, crayons, felt pens, tempera
- Artwork in high resolution jpeg or png format (NOT as a PDF) and artist statement emailed by March 10th to office@popdhh.ca. Artists, please do not sign your work until after the contest. You can add your initials.
- Judges will pre-judge to determine winners
- Top 3 winners for each age group will be announced on Showcase day (April 25, 2023)
